Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Social media posts claiming Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai declared the shooting of a civil servant by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Wamena as non-human rights violations are false.

Disinformation circulating on Threads falsely asserted that he defended the violent attack as an act of territorial self-defense by armed groups.

Fact-checking verification established that Minister Pigai made no such statement in official forums or public communications. Instead, he urged law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators under applicable legal frameworks.

Furthermore, an official Ministry of Human Rights press release dated 10 September 2026, explicitly condemned the killing, declaring the attack unjustifiable and demanding a comprehensive criminal investigation. Authorities urged the public to verify social media claims impersonating state officials before sharing unverified information online.
