Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has temporarily cut access to the Grok artificial intelligence application to protect the public from the spread of non-consensual AI-generated pornographic content, particularly targeting women and children.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said on Saturday (10/1/2026) that the decision reflects the state’s responsibility to ensure a safe and ethical digital space.
“The government views non-consensual sexual deepfakes as a serious violation of human rights, dignity, and public safety in the digital sphere,” she said, as cited by antaranews.com
The restriction was imposed on Saturday as a preventive and corrective measure while authorities assess safeguards on the platform. The Ministry has also summoned X, the platform linked to Grok, to provide clarification and outline mitigation steps to prevent misuse.
Minister Meutya said all digital platforms operating in Indonesia must have adequate controls to prevent the production and distribution of prohibited content. The action is based on existing regulations governing private electronic system providers.
