Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid conducted a surprise inspection of Meta’s Jakarta office on Wednesday (4/3/2026), demanding full transparency regarding the platform's algorithms and content moderation.
The government recently found that Meta’s regulatory compliance in Indonesia remains below 30%, specifically concerning the spread of life-threatening health misinformation and rampant online scams.
"We met with Meta to demand two primary things: algorithmic transparency and openness in their content moderation processes," Minister Meutya said following the inspection, as cited by antaranews.com.
The Minister emphasized that as a corporation profiting from Indonesia’s 230 million internet users, Meta must adhere to local laws, including mandatory reporting and stricter supervision of disinformation.
The government has set a specific timeline for Meta to improve its compliance, warning that current failures are fueling digital crimes and social polarization. While Meta’s Indonesian representatives must report back to their global headquarters, the Ministry expected immediate commitments to protect Indonesian citizens from harmful digital content.
