inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani called for transparent law enforcement after the Indonesian National Police (INP) named 20 corporations, including four foreign investors, as suspects in wildfires cases in various regions.

She reminded that the forest and land fires have caused numerous impacts that have disrupted people's lives, including health, economic, educational, social, and other aspects.

"The current process of handling forest and land fires is not only about extinguishing and recovery, but also about the state's firmness towards those responsible for the disaster," Puan said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (10/30/2026).

According to her, the police must be able to handle law enforcement in suspected forest and land fire cases fairly, especially for communities affected by the fires.

At the same time, families affected by the forest and land fires still need assurance that support will continue so they can resume their lives safely.

To that end, she also encouraged the central and regional governments to maintain continuous attention to the community throughout the legal process.

"Citizens' needs for medical treatment, education, and work require a response tailored to their circumstances," she said.

Puan assessed that the government's attention also needs to reach families who are simultaneously facing multiple impacts, including reduced income and increased living expenses.

Furthermore, she reminded the government to also ensure the well-being of the community when decisions regarding corporations suspected of involvement affect local economic activity.

The government, she said, needs to anticipate the impact on workers and small businesses within its authority, while still implementing legal processes and the obligations of responsible parties.

"Our common goal is to provide the community with the opportunity for a safer life," she said.
