DVI Team Identifies Three South Kalimantan Victims of Virgo 8 Shipwreck

Inp.polri.go.id - Banjarmasin. The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the South Kalimantan Regional Police identified three deceased victims from the Virgo Transport 8 vessel sinking in the Java Sea.

South Kalimantan Police Head of Medical and Health Unit Senior Superintendent Dr. Much Sofwan stated in Banjarmasin on Saturday (19/9/2026) that forensic teams, supported by the Indonesian National Police (INP) Medical Center (Pusdokkes) and Inafis unit, matched ante-mortem family records with post-mortem evidence.

The identified victims include Muhammad Abdianoor (30) confirmed via medical traits, Yuli (29) identified through dental structures, both residents of Banjarmasin, and Surya (59) from Tapin Regency, identified through fingerprints and medical traits. RS Bhayangkara Hospital Banjarmasin subsequently released the remains to their respective families, as reported by antaranews.com.

South Kalimantan Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Nur Khamid said that joint search and rescue teams have recovered 117 people, including 108 survivors and nine fatalities. 

The vessel sank on 13 September 2026, while carrying 243 passengers and crew from Surabaya to Banjarmasin.
