Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport City Regional City Sub-regional Police have detained an Egyptian national for allegedly stealing an iPhone 14 Pro from a passenger at Terminal 3.

The theft was reported on 6 September 2024 by a victim, VDM from Surabaya, who lost the phone while at the airport after arriving from Jayapura. The victim, identified as VDM from East Java’s Surabaya,  had left the phone in a trolley while purchasing a drink. Upon checking, the victim discovered the phone was missing, resulting in a loss of approximately Rp 16.2 million.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified the thief, identified as RM, who was found with the stolen phone in a ride-sharing vehicle. The phone was located under the front seat of the car, with its SIM card removed.

"He claimed he was at the airport to escort a friend back to Egypt," said Senior Superintendent Reza Fahlevi, the Soekarno hatta Police head of criminal criminal investigations.

After the arrest, the police contacted the Egyptian embassy regarding RM's deportation, which was carried out on Friday.
