inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of the Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq emphasized Bali's central role in transforming waste management, not only in environmental protection but also in maintaining Indonesia's tourism image.

Minister Hanif stated that the cleanliness of Bali's coastal areas is not only an environmental issue, but also related to Indonesia's image in the world.

"Bali is the face of Indonesia, and these beaches reflect the face of our nation. When beaches are clean, Indonesia is respected as an environmentally conscious nation. However, if they are polluted by waste, our reputation is also tarnished," said the Minister on Friday (3/6/2026).

As an international tourism destination, Bali faces a waste emergency that requires serious attention. Therefore, the target of 63.41 percent waste management by 2026 must be immediately realized through concrete steps in strategic areas like Bali.

Minister Hanif also highlighted that Indonesia's projected waste generation in 2029 is estimated to reach 146,780 tons per day, which requires strengthening the management system from the source.

"Bali must accelerate household waste sorting, including using composters and modern sugar cane, expanding its network of waste banks, and ensuring that tourist areas, hotels, restaurants, and cafes have a disciplined waste sorting system to prevent waste from burdening landfills and polluting the environment," he explained.

In addition to the beach cleanup, he also visited several source-based waste management sites in Bali. The Minister of Environment visited the Tahura 1 Denpasar Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST), Kesiman Petilan Village in Denpasar, Bongkasa Pertiwi Village in Badung, and the Pudak Mesari Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS 3R) in Darmasaba, Badung.

At these locations, Minister Hanif directly observed waste sorting being carried out at the household and community levels. He commended Bali for showing some progress, although he emphasized that significant challenges in waste management remain, requiring accelerated resolution.
