Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In response to the escalating Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has pledged to begin evacuating Indonesian citizens from the conflict-ridden Gaza Strip on Wednesday )1/11/2023), depending on the security situation on the region.
"The evacuation is expected to start today. However, I emphasize the word 'expected' because the situation on the ground remains unpredictable," she told the press conference in Jakarta as reported by antaranews.com.
The government has mobilized a team from Cairo to Rafah, on the Egyptian-Palestinian border, to facilitate the evacuation of Indonesian citizens from Gaza. However, the evacuation is expected to be gradual, with the safety of citizens being the top priority, Minister Retno added.
"The situation is really dynamic, but we need to make sure that if there is a movement for evacuation, there must be safety assurances from all parties so that the evacuation can be carried out safely," she reiterated.
Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection and Legal Aid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, explained that there were 10 Indonesian nationals in Gaza. Out of the ten, three members of the MER-C volunteer team at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza have decided not to evacuate.
The remaining seven individuals, including two families where Indonesian citizens are married to Palestinian residents, are expected to be evacuated soon.
