Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has set a target to realize the issuance of "Panda Bonds", global debt instruments denominated in Chinese Yuan (CNY), by June 2026 to strengthen the 2026 State Budget (APBN) through financing diversification.

Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026), he confirmed that the Director General of Budget Financing and Risk Management, Suminto, is scheduled to travel to China soon to finalize the arrangements. 

"Perhaps next month (for the issuance), but Mr. Suminto has already invited me to China to move forward," Minister Purbaya noted, as cited by antaranews.com.

The primary objective of the Panda Bond issuance is to reduce Indonesia's dependency on traditional financing sources from the United States and other Western nations. By the end of March 2026, Indonesia's debt financing reached Rp 258.7 trillion, and the government is now looking toward China’s deep liquidity and massive financial market to absorb new instruments.

Key highlights of the Panda Bond plan include competitive yields in the range of 2.3% to 2.5%, Chinese investors maintain strong confidence in Indonesia’s economic fundamentals, and. strategic partners with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

As a reciprocal gesture, the Indonesian government is also opening doors for China to issue its own bonds within Indonesia’s domestic market. This proposal was discussed during bilateral meetings between Minister Purbaya and Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an at the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., last month.
