inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The downpour that hit Jakarta from Wednesday night to Thursday (1/22/2026) has caused flooding in several main roads in the city.

In light of this situation, police sent their joint personnel from Mobile Brigade Unit, Traffic Unit Directorate, and Water and Air Police Unit to ensure the safety of the people, smooth traffic flow, and public activity to continue amidst the disaster.

Several areas directly impacted by flooding in Jakarta have become the primary focus of response efforts, including Letjen Suprapto street, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, and the Kampung Melayu area, East Jakarta, particularly around the Kampung Melayu Urban Village Office.

The presence of personnel on the ground serves not only to secure and regulate traffic but also to assist with evacuations and provide rapid assistance to affected communities.

In the field, the Mobile Brigade personnel are on standby to support evacuation and regional security, while the Traffic Directorate personnel are implementing measured and systematic traffic management and diversion. On the other hand, the Water and Air Police Unit personnel are deployed to support humanitarian operations in flood-prone areas and water access areas. All elements work under a unified command to ensure swift, precise, and humane response.

The Head of Public Information for the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, emphasized that the swift action taken by the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police is part of the police's preparedness in responding to potential hydrometeorological disasters occurring in various regions.

According to him, INP prioritizes a speedy response and the state's presence among the community during disasters.

"In Jakarta, personnel moved quickly to secure the area, evacuate, and manage traffic. Nationally, we, along with the Indonesian National Military (TNI), and all relevant agencies have deployed full force to ensure public safety and expedite disaster response," said Trunoyudo.

In an early warning issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Thursday (1/22/2026), Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and several other regions in Indonesia still have the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, which could trigger flooding and inundation. The public is advised to be more aware and remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas and along riverbanks.

INP urges the public not to force their way through flooded areas, to always comply with the instructions of officers in the field, and to prioritize the safety of themselves and their families.
