Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono urged BRICS nations to take a more active role in maintaining global peace and stability during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, India, on Thursday (14/5/2026). 

Representing Indonesia in its second year of membership, he emphasized that the bloc must amplify the voice of the Global South.

“As a rising power in the Global South, BRICS has the standing and responsibility to play a more active role in maintaining peace and preserving the rules that underpin global stability,” Minister Sugiono said, as reported by antaranews.com.

The Minister specifically addressed the deaths of four Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers in Lebanon, demanding full accountability. He further advocated for comprehensive reforms in global governance and the World Trade Organization (WTO) to ensure a non-discriminatory trading system. Highlighting Indonesia's commitment, he confirmed the nation is finalizing internal processes to join the New Development Bank (NDB) to strengthen economic resilience.
