Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been assisting 15 Indonesian Migrant Workers named suspects in a brawl involving martial arts groups in Taiwan, an official said on Sunday (17/9/2023
"Every suspect has the right to assistance, even if they had made mistakes We provide support for them," Nugroho Y Aribhimo, an official from the Ministry's Directorate of WNI Protection and Legal Affairs, said in Tangerang as reported by antaranews.com, saying that the Taiwanese law enforcement authorities are investigating the case.
The 15 suspects have been transferred to the Changhua District Prosecutor's Office for investigation on charges of murder, assault, and participation in a deadly fight that took place earlier on September 2, 2023.
"One of the injured victims is already showing signs of improvement. However, for those under legal charges, we are working in cooperation with the Changhua Police and Prosecutor's Office," Nugroho stated.
Following the altercation between the two martial arts groups, he urged Indonesian citizens residing in Taiwan, as well as those in Indonesia, to maintain peace.
"We appeal for no retaliation, as the country's representatives always mediate between conflicting parties there. Currently, both sides have reconciled," Nugroho disclosed.
The body of the Indonesian Migrant Workers who became victims in the brawl has arrived in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten on Sunday morning. The victim was identified as Jaenal Fanani from Trenggalek, East Java, who worked the manufactoring sector in Taiwan. His body was transported via Cathay Pacific commercial flight number CX 797 .
Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani said that a total of four bodies of PMI from Taiwan, including the brawl victim, were brought home following a collaboration between his agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
