inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Coordination Desk for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Security, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) has established eight Golden Migrant Villages (Demas) to prevent and suppress the migration of undocumented migrant workers.
"We have established eight Demas to educate the public about their involvement in preventing the deployment of illegal migrant workers," said Mohammad Kurniadi Koba, Deputy II for Foreign Policy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Security, and Security Affairs, on Thursday (7/10/2025).
He explained that the Coordination Desk for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) was established to follow the mandate of Law Number 18 of 2017 and the 7th Astacita Program of President Prabowo Subianto to prevent, protect, handle, and enforce the law against undocumented migrant workers.
"These eight Demas have Village Regulations (Perdes) on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, and we have successfully prevented the departure of 1,321 undocumented migrant workers," he said.
Koba stated that the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Coordination Desk has also provided education to 23,000 participants to strengthen prevention of non-procedural distribution of Indonesian Migrant Workers to various countries.
He emphasized the importance of public education to ensure Indonesian migrant workers follow procedures and regulations to ensure their safety while working abroad.
Moreover, prospective Indonesian migrant workers who do not follow these procedures are lured by the promise of comfortable work and high salaries abroad, but in reality, they face long working hours, withholding of documents, restricted mobility, censored communication, and even physical violence.
