inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Environment, Diaz Hendropriyono, emphasized that proper waste management contributes to the food security target set by President Prabowo Subianto.

During the socialization of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 109 of 2025 concerning the Management of Urban Waste to Generate Renewable Energy Based on Environmentally Friendly Technology in Jakarta on Tuesday, Diaz stated that President Prabowo highlighted the importance of clean water for food security, which is directly linked to waste management.

"Last night, during the cabinet meeting, he emphasized the importance of clean water. Why? Because clean water is linked to food security, and he wants us to have food security," explained Diaz.

"The availability of clean water also depends heavily on waste management. So, if waste is not managed, the water will automatically be unclean," he added.

Therefore, he said, waste management is also a focus for President Prabowo and is the background to the issuance of Presidential Decree 109/2025, which focuses on managing waste to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in final processing facilities and leaks into the environment.

The Indonesian government itself is targeting waste management to reach around 51 percent this year and 100 percent by 2029.

The Vice Minister of Environment also encouraged local governments and other stakeholders, including the business sector, to implement Waste to Energy (WTE) programs.

"The regional government's first and foremost responsibility, as stated here, is to provide land. Although it's not specifically stated, I believe it's around 4-5 hectares of land for this initiative," said the Deputy Minister.
