The Tanjung Perak Port Sub-regional Police responded quickly to the loss of contact with the motor vessel (KM) Virgo Transport 8 by establishing an integrated post for the victims' families at the Gapura Surya Nusantara (GSN) Terminal at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, on Sunday (9/13/2026).

Simultaneously, the East Java Regional Police's Medical and Health Division (Bidokkes) also prepared an Ante Mortem Post.

Tanjung Perak Port Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Irwan Kurniawan, stated that this integrated post was prepared to serve and assist families seeking information regarding the whereabouts of passengers.

To facilitate the search process, officers at the integrated post have displayed a list of passenger manifests, crew members, and vehicle manifests.

"We established this post as part of our humanitarian operation and as a form of preparedness in handling the KM Virgo Transport 8 accident," said Irwan Kurniawan on Sunday (9/13/2026).

Furthermore, this integrated post serves as a forum and a means for people whose family members were passengers on the ship to file complaints.

Since the post opened, several families of victims have begun arriving to confirm the names of their relatives who were believed to have been on board the ship when contact was lost.

For families whose relatives' names were not listed on the official manifest, officers immediately directed them to the East Java Regional Police's Ante Mortem Post for further data collection.

"We are conducting a comprehensive data collection and requesting contact numbers for families. As soon as there are any developments or if a victim is found, we will immediately notify the family," concluded Irwan.
