Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs has said that withdrawing Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers from Lebanon is a viable option if the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) can no longer guarantee their safety.

"If the UNIFIL mandate is no longer able to provide protection for peacekeeping personnel, then early withdrawal becomes one of the options considered," said Brigadier General Honi Havana, the Head of the Ministry's Public Relations Bureau, on Tuesday (13/5/2026), responding to the security concerns in the region ahead of a scheduled rotation of 780 Indonesian troops on 22 May 2026.

Despite this stance, the government maintains that the mission remains viable through strategic mitigation. Honi outlined that the TNI and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut are continuously updating risk assessments.

Proposed measures include the potential repossession or evacuation of specific outposts based on real-time security threats. Furthermore, Indonesia remains committed to UN protocols requiring transparent investigations into any incidents targeting peacekeepers to ensure international legal accountability.
