Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian and Australian governments have committed to intensifying joint efforts to counter online radicalization and terrorism financing, following a strategic dialogue in Jakarta.
"Indonesia stands with Australia in addressing the persistent threat of digital propaganda, specifically targeting children and teenagers through high-risk social media platforms," said Bangbang Surono, the Chief Secretary of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), on Sunday (12/4/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
The partnership focuses on removing extremist content, promoting counter-narratives, and enhancing media literacy. Both nations expressed deep concern over the use of artificial intelligence and virtual assets in recruitment and funding.
To mitigate these risks, the Indonesian government recently enacted a regulation restricting minors under 16 from accessing high-risk digital platforms, while Australia recommended urgent discussions on the role of deepfakes in accelerating radicalization. This collaboration aims to secure regional stability through adaptive and data-driven security measures.
