Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) launched high-level coordination meetings Monday (6/4/2026) to mitigate the impact of soaring plastic prices on local businesses following global supply chain disruptions.
"We have received numerous reports from MSME actors regarding the rising costs of product packaging, and we are currently preparing strategic mitigation steps," said Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman, as cited by antaranews.com.
The domestic price of plastic has surged between 30 and 80 percent, a spike attributed to heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting raw material availability.
Minister Maman confirmed that his office is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Trade to stabilize costs and protect small-scale producers from excessive overhead. While specific technical measures are still under review, the government emphasized its commitment to ensuring that essential packaging remains affordable to maintain the competitiveness of Indonesian small businesses during this period of global market volatility.
