Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government is finalizing a flexible Work From Home (WFH) scheme to mitigate the economic impact of rising global oil prices.
Following a restricted meeting with President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday (19/3/2026), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the policy aims to reduce national fuel consumption by cutting down daily commuting needs.
"Due to high oil prices, we need work-time efficiency, where flexibility for working from home will be opened," he said, as cited by antaranews.com
He said that the government is projecting a significant reduction in fuel expenditures, estimated at one-fifth of current consumption levels. The proposed framework suggests one day of WFH per five-day work week, applicable to civil servants, local administrations, and the private sector.
President Prabowo has given a positive response to the initiative, viewing it as a strategic necessity amid geopolitical instability and volatile energy markets. While the technical details are still being refined, the government plans to implement the policy shortly after the 2026 Eid Al-Fitr holiday, with the duration of the program depending on global oil price trends and international conflict developments.
