Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government is drafting a bill aimed at countering disinformation and foreign propaganda targeting national interests, officials said on Wednesday (14/1/2026), citing growing concerns over misleading narratives from abroad affecting politics and the economy.
Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the planned Law on Countering Disinformation and Foreign Propaganda is intended to address false or misleading information used to undermine Indonesia.
“These narratives are not limited to politics but also extend to economic competition that unfairly harms Indonesia,” Minister Yusril said, as cited by antaranews.com.
He confirmed the bill is at the study stage and no official draft has been finalized. President Prabowo Subianto, Minister Yusril added, has instructed relevant ministries to explore legal frameworks to respond to such threats, noting that many countries already have similar laws.
The government cited cases where Indonesian products were portrayed negatively abroad as examples of propaganda driven by unhealthy competition. The proposed bill is expected to strengthen national resilience against coordinated information attacks.
