inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is prioritizing the revitalization of schools and educational units severely damaged by flash floods and landslides in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in 2026.
"As for the schools that are severely damaged and no longer usable, we will prioritize them for this year's revitalization program," said Vice Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Atip Latipulhayat, on Monday (1/5/2026).
This was conveyed by Alip after reviewing the teaching and learning process at State Senior High School 12 in Padang City. The visit also aimed to ensure the preparation of all educational units in disaster-affected areas.
Alip stated that the government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, has compiled data on schools and educational units affected by the disaster. The classification is divided into three clusters: lightly, moderately, and severely damaged.
Specifically in West Sumatra Province, the relevant Ministry recorded 501 schools affected by flash floods and landslides. Meanwhile, across the three provinces, 4,470 educational institutions required post-disaster recovery.
He stated that of the three affected provinces, Aceh was the worst-hit, with 2,756 schools affected. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, 1,213 schools were affected.
On that occasion, the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education distributed operational assistance to elementary, junior high, and high schools, each amounting to IDR 15 million. This support is expected to accelerate the recovery process for educational institutions.
Furthermore, the ministry also provided direct assistance to students in the form of stationery, food, and canned milk. This assistance was also given directly to representatives of kindergarten students affected by the disaster.
