inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Aceh Regional Police initiated the planting of 10,000 mangrove seedlings in coastal areas as part of the Green Policing program. The activity, centered in Gampong Alue Naga, Syiah Kuala District, Banda Aceh City, represents a concrete step by the police to strengthen ecological resilience while boosting the economic resilience of coastal villages.

The program received praise from Nasir Djamil, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Aceh electoral district, who considered the Aceh Regional Police Chief Marzuki Ali Basyah move a strategic approach to ecological-based disaster mitigation.

"Chief Ali’s initiative to plant 10,000 mangroves deserves support from all parties in Aceh. Mangroves have many benefits. Besides being a habitat for fish and various other marine life, mangrove trees can also dampen large waves like tsunamis. Therefore, planting 10,000 mangroves is a model for disaster mitigation through an ecological approach," Nasir said on Tuesday (3/3/2026).

According to him, mangroves not only function to prevent abrasion and reduce the impact of tidal waves and tsunamis, but also have an educational dimension for coastal communities, especially the younger generation.

"We believe this initiative aims to reconnect coastal communities with their environment, especially the younger generation who may not know much about mangroves," he said.

Furthermore, Nasir added that well-grown mangroves will provide added value to the village, both in terms of air quality and economic potential through the development of educational and environmental tourism.

"Well-grown mangroves will provide added value in the form of cleaner air in the surrounding area and can also be a source of income for the village if developed as an educational and environmental tourism destination," he said.

He also emphasized that the Green Policing concept can be adapted to the characteristics of each region, but has the same goal: to protect the environment from damage caused by mining and illegal logging. He encouraged local governments to support this program by allocating budgets to ensure its sustainability.
