“The President asked about the COVID situation. I informed him that cases are indeed increasing,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com

The Minister emphasized that the current spike is driven by relatively non-lethal subvariants. 

“This rise involves variants that are not deadly, so there’s no need to panic,” he said.

Minister Budi Gunadi cited the Omicron JN.1 subvariant as the dominant strain, which is also contributing to rising cases in several Asian countries such as Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The Health Ministry, through Acting Director General Murti Utami, urged health units to monitor trends via the government’s Early Warning and Response System (SKDR) and WHO updates.
