inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian urged regional heads to issue policies related to taxes and levies that benefit the people.
"I ask other regional heads, whenever they issue policies related to taxes and levies, not to burden the people. Do it gradually," said the Minister of Home Affairs on Thursday (8/14/2025).
The Minister made this statement in response to the policy of the Regent of Pati, Central Java, Sudewo, regarding the 250 percent increase in the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2), which sparked public anger and led to demonstrations that ended in chaos.
The Minister of Home Affairs also reminded regional governments that the calculation of the taxable object's selling value (NJOP) must be carried out carefully.
"It must not burden the people. That's the main principle," he said.
The former Indonesian National Police Chief urged regional heads to allow more time for the policy socialization process to ensure its widespread acceptance.
"For example, it could be made this year, but it would take effect on January 1 of the following year," said the Minister of Home Affairs.
Furthermore, the Minister of Home Affairs also asked regional governments to formulate policies by first considering community dynamics and using responsive and accommodating methods such as dialogue.
