Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’s Geological Agency is maintaining 24-hour surveillance on six volcanoes showing heightened activity, marking five on "alert" and one at "danger" level, following significant volcanic movement in recent days.
The volcanoes include Mount Awu in North Sulawesi, Mount Ibu in Maluku, Mount Iya in East Nusa Tenggara, Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, and Mount Merapi in Central Java-Yogyakarta, currently on alert. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Nusa Tenggara was elevated to “danger” status since 4 November 2024.
"Mounts Lewotobi Laki-Laki, Mount Iya, and Mount Marapi are all experiencing increased activity," said Geological Agency Head Muhammad Wafid on Saturday (1/11/2024), as reported by antaranews.com.
Observations showed Mount Merapi produced 11 lava flows, reaching up to 1.6 kilometers, accompanied by eruptions and tremors. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted Saturday morning, expelling ash 9 kilometers into the air.

“We are fully prepared to ensure public safety with real-time monitoring,” said Wafid, emphasizing their commitment to rapid information dissemination and collaboration with local authorities.
