inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government and the European Union (EU) are strengthening collaboration on research into e-waste management and preparing engineers with a green technology perspective.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto highlighted the large volume of e-waste in Indonesia, which requires an integrated recycling system.
"One area of concern is the recycling of e-waste. The sheer volume of e-waste in Indonesia is indeed enormous and requires a recycling ecosystem to prevent harm to the public and generate economic value," said Brian on Wednesday (4/22/2026).
He added that joint research will also cover the recycling of industrial waste and batteries, as part of strengthening the circular economy.
Through joint research and capacity-building schemes, the government is collaborating with the EU to produce globally recognized engineers in the field of green technology. EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi also expressed his support.
"We look forward to working with Indonesia to promote 1,000 green engineers for the future of the planet," he said.
In addition to research, this collaboration also includes cross-border doctoral education and academic mobility to strengthen Indonesia's human resource capacity in the green industry sector.
