inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government ensures that measures to strengthen surveillance or early detection and additional immunization continue to be intensified in response to a notification from Australia regarding the discovery of two measles cases of their citizens with a history of travel from Indonesia in February 2026.

Acting Director General of Disease Control of the Ministry of Health Andi Saguni said the official notification of the International Health Regulation (IHR) from the Australian Health Authority was immediately followed up through strategic mitigation measures.

"As an immediate step, we are strengthening measles surveillance and intensifying additional measles immunization for school-age children, especially in areas with the highest caseload throughout 2025-2026," said Andi, Tuesday (2/24/2026).

The first case involved an 18-year-old woman with a complete vaccination history who traveled the Jakarta-Perth route in early February. The second case, he said, involved a 6-year-old girl with no immunization history who traveled from Jakarta to Sydney in mid-February.

"Both were confirmed positive through PCR testing after showing symptoms of fever and rash," said Andi.

In addition to strengthening surveillance and immunization, the Ministry of Health is also alerting health care facilities, including hospitals, to anticipate and handle potential cases with complications.

He urged parents to complete their children's measles immunization status according to schedule, implement Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors, and immediately report to health care facilities if they experience symptoms of fever and rash, then limit contact with others to prevent transmission.

"Communication, information, and education continue to be encouraged so that the public adopts clean and healthy living behaviors, such as wearing masks, washing hands with soap, practicing cough etiquette, and consuming a balanced, nutritious diet," explained Andi.

Based on Ministry of Health data, 11,094 confirmed measles cases were recorded throughout 2025. Meanwhile, as of February 2026, 550 cases had been reported. However, currently there has been no determination of the status of an Extraordinary Event (KLB) for measles nationally.
