Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and Norway have agreed to deepen environmental diplomacy and expand concrete cooperation in addressing climate change, nature conservation, and sustainable development.
The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) by Indonesia’s Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, during Minister Hanif’s official visit to Oslo.
“It is crucial for us to strengthen the implementation of carbon economic value as part of Indonesia’s efforts to achieve its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets,” Minister Hanif said in a statement released Sunday (4/5/2025).
He added that Indonesia and Norway have built a robust carbon trading system to support national climate goals.
The LoI outlines commitments to enhance collaboration in climate mitigation and adaptation, good governance, biodiversity conservation, peatland and mangrove preservation, waste management, and circular economy initiatives.
Since 2022, Norway has pledged US$216 million (around Rp 3.5 trillion) in funding to support Indonesia’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from forestry and land use (FOLU).
