inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and Peru are exploring bilateral cooperation related to halal product assurance and recognition of foreign halal certificates through the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) scheme.

The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, believes Peru has a significant opportunity to develop its national halal industry capacity, especially amidst the growing global demand for halal products.

"In Latin America, Brazil has become a major player in the global halal industry. Peru also has significant potential to develop in the same direction if it begins strengthening its national halal ecosystem now," explained Ahmad on Tuesday (5/26/2026).

According to him, strengthening halal cooperation between Indonesia and Peru will open up broader trade opportunities for both countries.

He said Peruvian products have the potential to expand access to the Indonesian and global halal markets, while Indonesian products can also penetrate markets in the Latin American region, including Peru.

Furthermore, Ahmad also emphasized that Indonesia, as a country with more than 250 million halal-conscious consumers, is a key hub for global halal industry growth and is ready to become a strategic partner for friendly countries in developing the halal ecosystem.

"BPJPH is open to dialogue and cooperation with any country to jointly advance the global halal ecosystem. Halal is a universal language of quality, hygiene, and consumer trust," said Ahmad.

Furthermore, BPJPH also stated that Indonesia will enter a crucial phase in implementing mandatory halal certification, which will come into full effect on October 18, 2026, specifically for food and beverage products, slaughtered products, and slaughtering services, as mandated by the Halal Product Guarantee regulation.

Therefore, BPJPH encourages foreign businesses and exporters wishing to enter the Indonesian market to begin preparing for halal certification of their products early.

"Either through the foreign halal registration mechanism or through cooperation on halal certificate recognition between foreign halal institutions and BPJPH," said Ahmad.
