Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has reaffirmed that all United States products entering the domestic market must comply with mandatory halal certification.

Under a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), goods certified by approved Foreign Halal Bodies (LHLN) in the U.S. will be recognized in Indonesia through a streamlined registration process rather than a full recertification.

“U.S. products remain subject to mandatory halal requirements. Certification can be conducted in the country of origin and subsequently registered in Indonesia,” said Emmy Suryandari, the Head of the Ministry of Industry’s Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency, on Tuesday (24/2/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Currently, five U.S.-based halal agencies are officially recognized by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH). While Indonesia is working to eliminate non-tariff barriers, including local content requirements and burdensome labeling, halal compliance remains a non-negotiable standard. These agreements, which involve 102 agencies across 38 countries, are reviewed every two to four years to ensure rigorous oversight and consumer protection.
