Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs reported a sustained decline in online gambling transactions throughout 2024 following the government’s crackdown on the issue.
Using data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the ministry’s quarterly evaluations revealed a significant decrease: Rp 21 trillion (around US$1.29 billion) in the first quarter, Rp 16 trillion in the second, and Rp4 trillion in the third.
Director General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar shared these findings during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission I on Wednesday (22/1/2025).
He detailed the ministry’s efforts, including blocking websites, analyzing new gambling methods, collecting relevant keywords, and employing AI to filter gambling-related content.
“We’ve also proposed blocking phone numbers and messaging apps suspected of facilitating gambling transactions,” Director General Sabar said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
From 2017 to 21 January 2025, the ministry addressed over 5.7 million pieces of online gambling content.
