Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian government has dispatched early on Sunday (22/10/2023) 20 tons of materials and raw goods to assist in the rehabilitation of Port Vila International Airport in Vanuatu, which was severely impacted by the Cyclones Judy and Kevin in early March 2023.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia revealed that the shipment was sent to aid in the reconstruction of the vital infrastructure, essential for Vanuatu's economic and social resurgence. The distribution of this aid has been being overseen jointly by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. The rehabilitation project commenced with the laying of the first stone at Bauerfield Airport, which was attended by  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Nugraha Mansury, and Vanuatu's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Matai Seremaiah Nawalu. The endeavor not only aims to repair infrastructure but also to strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two nations. The rehabilitation project is expected to conclude by the end of October or early November. Upon completion, the upgraded facilities will be formally handed over by the Indonesian government to the government of Vanuatu. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
