Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia will begin exporting 2,000 tons of rice per month to Malaysia under a business-to-business agreement, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman announced on Friday (30/5/2025).
“Yes, 2,000 tons. We plan to start from the closest region—West Kalimantan,” he said during a ceremony in Jakarta celebrating Indonesia’s 4 million-ton government rice reserve.
The exports, totaling 24,000 tons annually, will mainly come from West Kalimantan, but other companies near Malaysia may also participate. The timeline and rice types—medium to premium quality—will be determined by the exporters.
“Domestic needs will remain the top priority,” Minister Amran emphasized, as quoted by antara news.com.
He added that Indonesia is also open to exporting rice to other ASEAN countries.
“As directed by President Prabowo, if neighboring countries need rice, we’ll be ready to supply,” he said.
Earlier, Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto had approved the rice export plan.
