Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia will issue new visas or extend existing ones for Palestinian students on scholarships who are unable to leave their homeland due to ongoing conflict, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirmed Saturday (1/3/2025).
"If they return here, there will be no issue. We will immediately process their visas," HE said after meeting Palestinian Ambassador Zuhair Al-Shun.
The ambassador had raised concerns over expired visas preventing students from resuming their studies in Indonesia.
The discussion also covered Palestine’s push for full United Nations membership. Minister Yusril stressed the role of diplomacy in countering military disadvantages against Israel.
"Indonesia has backed Palestinian independence since 1948 and remains committed," he affirmed, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He also addressed the destruction of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, built by MER-C with public donations. Uncertainty lingers over its reconstruction, as humanitarian conditions in Gaza deteriorate.
