Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen won her maiden WTA 250 singles title at the 2025 Chennai Open in India on Sunday (2/11/2025), defeating Australia’s Kimberly Birrell 6–4, 6–3 in a two-hour match.
“I think I played really well here. With every round I kept improving, and today I was able to play my best tennis,” she said in a post-match interview with the WTA, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Seeded fourth, the 23-year-old from Jakarta fired two aces and converted all three break-point opportunities to overcome the seventh-seeded Birrell. Janice endured two early-round three-set battles before cruising past Czech player Mia Pohánková 6–3, 6–1 in the quarterfinals and rallying from 2–5 down to beat Thailand’s Lanlana Tararudee in the semifinals.
The Chennai title was her breakthrough after earlier successes in WTA 125 events and a doubles win at the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open last week with Poland’s Katarzyna Piter. Janice now aims for another trophy in the doubles final alongside Aldila Sutjiadi.
