Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end after a 1–0 defeat to Iraq in their Group B match of the Asian qualifiers’ fourth round, held early Sunday (12/10/2025) at King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah.
The result left Indonesia at the bottom of the group with no points from two matches, following a 2–3 loss to Saudi Arabia earlier. Iraq, on the other hand, strengthened their chance to advance to the final round, sitting second with three points from one game.
Midfielder Zidane Iqbal scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute after both sides struggled to convert chances in the first half. Despite several efforts from Thom Haye, Mauro Zijlstra, and Kevin Diks, Indonesia failed to find the net.
Iraq ended the match with ten men after Zaid Tahseen received a second yellow card in stoppage time, but Indonesia couldn’t capitalize before the final whistle.
