Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Inspector General Cahyono Wibowo, the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Head Anti-Corruption Corps (Kortastipidkor), said that his unit is assisting the investigation into extortion allegations against former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Firli Bahuri.
“Our role is strictly as quality control over the investigative processes handled by the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police,” he explained during a press briefing at the PTIK Building in Jakarta on Monday (10/12/2024).
Chief Cahyono said that Metro Jaya Police retains full authority in handling the case, while the Anti-Corruption Corps provides technical supervision.
The investigation, he added, is proceeding smoothly despite Firli's request for a rescheduled questioning session two weeks ago. Authorities are evaluating the situation to determine further steps, according to a
Firli is accused of extorting former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo, with charges under the Anti-Corruption Law and KPK Law, which carry potential penalties of up to five years in prison.
Firli’s legal team has requested the investigation be dropped, citing insufficient evidence. However, authorities have not indicated any intention to halt proceedings at this stage.
