Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) has cracked down on 840 cases of alleged human trafficking (TPPO) from June 5th to September 17th, 2023,. The operations were conducted by the TPPO Task Force, led directly by INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the INP Head of Public Information Bureau, said that that out of the hundreds of cases handled, 1,007 suspects have been arrested and charged.
"Through these investigations, a total of 2,651 individuals have been rescued from becoming victims," he said in his statement on Monday (18/9/2023)
Among the various tactics employed by the suspects, the most common was enticing victims to work as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) or Domestic Workers (PRT), with 521 cases recorded. The next most prevalent tactic was forcing victims to work as Commercial Sex Work (PSK), with 281 cases recorded. Other TPPO methods included exploiting victims as Crew Members (ABK) in 7 cases and child exploitation in 69 cases. (mg/ndt/pr/nm)
