Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta — The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency evacuated two Indonesian citizens allegedly held and abused by an illegal tin smuggling syndicate in Malaysia.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP3MI) in Riau Islands and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
“We conducted a rescue operation for our citizens who were being held along with other Indonesians,” said Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, the Director of Specific Crimes, on Friday (22/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Authorities reported three suspects were involved in detaining the victims, all linked to a syndicate smuggling tin ore from Bangka to Malaysia. The victims, accused of fraud after failing to deliver ore despite receiving payment, were freed with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police.
Malaysian police are handling the alleged abuse, while Bareskrim continues investigating the smuggling network, which has been disrupted in previous operations.
