inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) have successfully busted 397 international human trafficking cases for the past month.

“The INP Criminal Investigation Agency and regional police ranks, along with related stakeholders, have successfully uncovered 397 Human Trafficking cases with the total suspect arrested of 482 from October to November. In those operations, we have estimated to save a total of 904 human trafficking victims,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Agency, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada in a press conference.

Of the hundred cases, Wahyu noted that the biggest human trafficking case occurred in Riau Island, North Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan.

The four most common modes of operation were sending Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) illegally to be used as domestic workers (PRT); exploiting children and adults to be used as commercial sex workers (CSW).

Then, exploiting children to be used as ordered brides; and finally employing them as ship crew.

"From the total disclosures, we have succeeded in preventing potential state losses of Rp284 billion," said Wahyu

Police have charged the suspects with Article 4 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Human Trafficking and Article 81 of Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

"Of course, this success is the result of collaboration and synergy of all related parties who have contributed to supporting the 7th Asta Cita program of President Prabowo Subianto," conclude Wahyu
