Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Water and Air Corps) plans to enhance its fleet with additional ships and aircraft to strengthen maritime and aerial security across Indonesia.
Inspector General Mohammad Yasin Kosasih, the Head of the Water and Air Corps , said on Tuesday (3/12/2024) that the current fleet is insufficient to meet operational demands, including supporting national events such as elections.
"Our existing vessels, like the C3 type used by regional police, are only 9 meters long and lack the speed to reach remote areas quickly during emergencies," he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.
To address these challenges, the Water and Air Corps aims to acquire A1-class multifunction ships, approximately 90 meters long, capable of transporting personnel, vehicles, and emergency medical equipment.
"These ships can also carry logistics, which has been challenging with our current resources, as seen during operations in East Nusa Tenggara," said Chief Yasin.
The Water and Air Corps plans to procure AgustaWestland AW169 and AW139 helicopters within two years, equipping each regional police office with one or two units for patrol and security missions.
