Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The ongoing pre-trial hearing of suspended Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri has uncovered evidence of his alleged involvement in an extortion case, according to Jakarta Metropolitan Police investigators. During Friday's hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, Sub-Directorate V for Corruption of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police investigator, Assistant Superintendent Arief Maulana, revealed the results of their investigation, which indicated criminal activities related to extortion, acceptance of gratification or gifts by a public official in connection with legal matters. "The facts obtained from the investigation reveal criminal events related to extortion, acceptance of gratuities or gifts involving a state official dealing with legal matters," he said on Friday (15/12/2023). Investigator Arief detailed the process that led to the identification of Firli Bahuri as a suspect in an alleged extortion case against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo . He said that the investigation began on 12 August 2023 with a public complaint about alleged corruption by KPK leaders in handling cases within the Ministry of Agriculture. Subsequently, on 15 August 2023, the Jakarta Police began verifications and information gathering. The investigation process, including the issuance of orders, verifications, report submissions and case reviews, continued throughout August and September. On 30 September 2023, a request for assistance was sent to the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department , and the case officially entered the investigation phase on 5 October 2023.
