Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur have entered a formal sister city agreement to jointly address pressing urban issues and build resilient, sustainable cities.
“We face similar challenges from traffic congestion and rising public service demands to climate change threats, but we also have great opportunities to learn from and support each other,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo in an official statement after signing the Letter of Intent (LOI) with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Dato’ Seri Maimunah in Malaysia on Monday (11/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The partnership will prioritize public health, flood control, green building and decarbonization, sustainable transport, waste management, and cultural and tourism exchanges. This is Jakarta’s third such pact in six months, following agreements with South Korea’s Chungcheongnam-do and Germany’s Heidelberg.
Kuala Lumpur’s mayor welcomed the cooperation, calling it a step toward tangible benefits for both capitals.
