Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta administration confirmed that fares for the city’s MRT and LRT services will remain unchanged despite budget cuts and efficiency measures following reduced central government transfers.
“I assure you that MRT and LRT fares will not increase. Studies on both the willingness and ability to pay show that current rates are still appropriate,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo during the 2025 MRT Jakarta Media Fellowship on Thursday (9/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Syafrin explained that the average MRT fare remains heavily subsidized, with passengers paying around Rp 7,000 compared to the economic rate of Rp13,000. Meanwhile, Transjakarta’s fare, unchanged since 2005, may soon be adjusted due to inflation and rising operational costs.
MRT Jakarta CEO Tuhiyat added that the company continues to explore non-fare revenues such as station naming rights and retail space rentals to maintain financial sustainability. Governor Pramono Anung earlier said subsidy efficiency would not automatically lead to fare hikes.
