The Merauke Sub-regional Police Water and Air Police Unit, along with the Merauke Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), conducted a joint operation on the sixth day of the search for six missing crew members of the KM Bintang Laut GT 29, who went missing at the Merauke Fisheries Port. This operation took place on Monday (1/26/2026).
Prior to the operation, all joint personnel attended a briefing led by the Head of Operations for Basarnas Merauke, Mathius Amba Rura. Following the briefing, the joint team proceeded to the search area using two LCR (rubber boats) and one Basarnas vessel, the KN SAR Merauke 223.
The search team was divided into two groups. The first team searched the coast from Lampu 1 Beach to Payum Beach and then continued to Onggaya Beach to Kali Sarui. Meanwhile, the second team searched the coastal area from Nasem Beach to Ndalir.
By late afternoon, the entire team returned to the KN SAR Merauke 223, which was serving as a floating command post. The KN SAR Merauke 223 then docked at the Merauke Fisheries Port, where a final evaluation and briefing were held. The police, along with relevant agencies, confirmed that they would continue their search efforts with maximum effort and coordination to locate the crew members still missing.
