inp.polri.go.id - Garut. The Garut Sub-regional Police Marine and Air Unit dispatched their personnel to evacuate 10 fishermen who were stranded on the sea after their boat capsized in the sea of Karang Papak, Garut Regency, West Java, Saturday (5/25/2025).
Head of the Marine and Air Unit, First Police Inspector Aep Saprudin confirmed that there was a sea accident involving a fishing boat that capsized after being hit by rogue waves.
"There has been a sea accident where a fishing boat capsized in the middle of the sea in Karang Papak. We managed to evacuate 10 victims safely," he said.
He said that the incident of the capsized boat began when it was about to enter Karang Papak Port, Saturday at around 9:30 am. As soon as it was about to enter the port, it was rolled by waves and the crews were carried away by the current to the middle of the sea.
"Around 100 meters from the shore the boat was rolled by waves and caused the boat to capsize and be carried away by the current to the middle of the sea," he said.
The incident, he said, resulted in the ranks of the Garut Sub-regional Police Marine Unit, fishermen, Water Tourism Rescue Agency, Garut Transportation Agency officials, and disaster volunteers immediately going down to evacuate the victims who were all known to be residents of Cikelet Village/District, Garut.
He said that the evacuation team also managed to pull the boat to the beach using another boat.
"We are able to come to the scene and evacuate the victims and the boat," he said.
It was known that the southern sea area of Garut is the waters of the Indian Ocean which has the character of quite large sea waves and there are many stretches of coral. Many has fallen victims to its waves.
