Inp.polri.go.id – Palu. The Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurates the rehabilitation and reconstruction project for Wani Port and Pantoloan Port in Palu, Central Sulawesi on Wednesday (3/27/2024). The two ports were previously damaged due to the earthquake in 2018.
“Thanks to our hard work, we could now inaugurate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the ports in Palu, which are Wani Port and Pantoloan Port,” said Jokowi on Wednesday (3/27/2024).
Jokowi then remarks that two of the third parts of Indonesia are covered by waters, which makes the marine sector and ports to be the key in Indonesian economic development. Furthermore, Jokowi noted that ports are also important for public and goods mobility.
However, in 2018, Palu City was rocked by an earthquake and damaged many of its important infrastructure, including ports. In response to the disaster, Jokowi released Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 10 of 2018 concerning the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction after the Earthquake and Tsunami disaster in Central Sulawesi Province and other affected areas.
“The rehabilitation was funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) for IDR 233 billion with the goal of reestablishing the ports affected by the disaster,” said Jokowi.
The rehabilitation of Wani Port includes the construction of a 150 meters pier, 28 meters long trestle, office building, state ship garage, and mosque. Wani Port also has the existing cargo service capacity of 82,000 tons per year and is able to provide a service to a 6,000 DWT ship.
While Port Pantoloan rehabilitation includes the rebuilding of a 93 meters long trestle, 169 meters of pier, extension of the upper structure of the pier, and the Port management office building covering an area of 1,500 square meters. Pantoloan has the existing container service capacity of 160,000 TEUs per year and is capable of serving the largest ships of 30,000 DWT.
