inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli believes that strengthening occupational health aspects is crucial to prevent the risk of workplace accidents.

"Strengthening occupational safety and health (K3) should not only focus on preventing workplace accidents. Occupational health aspects also need to be strengthened by involving occupational health professionals to provide more comprehensive worker protection, including against the risk of work-related diseases and injury management," explained the Minister of Manpower on Monday (2/2/2026).

One effort aligned with the focus on occupational health is the involvement of occupational physicians. Occupational physicians are doctors with expertise in occupational medicine, who focus on addressing health issues related to work and the work environment.

Their role includes monitoring workers' health conditions, assessing exposure risks in the workplace, and providing recommendations for workers to work safely and stay healthy.

"The involvement of occupational physicians is important so that occupational health and safety policies encompass more comprehensive protection, including addressing the risk of work-related diseases and the need for injury management," said Minister Yassierli

He also emphasized that improvements to occupational health and safety must begin with strengthening regulations, including the planned revision of Law Number 1 of 1970 concerning Occupational Safety.

"One of our significant homework is with regulations, namely revising Law Number 1 of 1970 concerning Occupational Safety. This is a collective effort that cannot be done alone," emphasized Yassierli

Thus, Yassierli  invited relevant parties, including the Indonesian Association of Occupational Medicine Specialists (Perdoki), to actively provide input and solutions regarding the substance of the OHS regulations that will be strengthened.

He considered the involvement of occupational physicians in the policy-making process crucial to ensure a more comprehensive regulatory scope, encompassing occupational health, occupational diseases, and work-related accidents.

In addition to regulations, Yassierli highlighted the importance of strengthening services for handling occupational injuries and diseases in healthcare facilities.

To strengthen promotive and preventive measures, the Minister also stated that he has requested the Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) to further supports the OHS strengthening.
