inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) is working to optimize child protection in Sekolah Rakyat by developing a child care and protection module that will be included in the boarding school curriculum.
"We are assisting in the development of Sekolah Rakyat curriculum. Among other things, we are finalizing the basic care principles, which are included in the guidelines," said KPAI Chairperson Ai Maryati Solihah in her statement on Thursday (7/10/2025).
The KPAI Chairperson made this statement in response to concerns from some parties regarding the potential for violence against children, given that Sekolah Rakyat are boarding schools that allow children to interact with their peers for extended periods, potentially triggering violent conflicts, such as bullying.
Furthermore, the KPAI Chairperson explained that children attending Sekolah Rakyat live together like a family, so character education, such as mutual respect, is essential in their daily lives.
"That's why we've included elements of child protection in the care provided at Sekolah Rakyat," she said.
The KPAI Chairperson stated that the KPAI is currently finalizing the module and plans to launch it with the Ministry of Social Affairs this month.
Thus, he said, Sekolah Rakyat can become safe spaces that minimize repeated violence and potential problems in children from an early age.
