Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and his special staff, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, known as Gus Alex, have been officially named suspects in the hajj quota corruption case since 8 January 2026.

“The suspect designation was carried out yesterday,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said on Friday (9/1/2026), as reported by antaranews.com

The case involves the allocation of additional hajj quotas in 2024, where 20,000 spots were split equally between regular and special hajj programs, contrary to the legal ratio under Article 64 of Law No. 8/2019. The KPK had previously blocked Yaqut, Gus Alex, and hajj organizer Fuad Hasan Masyhur from international travel for six months.

The investigation was first launched in August 2025, with preliminary calculations estimating state losses exceeding Rp 1 trillion. KPK has formally notified both suspects and continues to gather evidence.
